Exhibit Item Widgets

Exhibit item widgets use items already uploaded into your digital exhibit.

To access widgets: Click the gray + symbols between every widget box (it turns blue when you hover your mouse over it). Click the  to add a new widget box.

Exhibit Item Widgets

Browse Categories allow you to set pre-determined categories using tags for your users to browse through. The widget will look like this:

And when the user clicks on the Browse Category, it will look like this (although you have the option to default how they view it):

  1. Click Browse Categories and a widget box will appear. Begin typing the name of a Browse Category you created. A list from which to choose will appear as you type.

  1. Uncheck Include item counts? if you do not want the item count listed on the Browse Category.
  2. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page.

As widgets, Browse Categories and Saved Searches are nearly identical. The widget will look like the image below, and clicking on it will look like the default list view of a search.

  1. Click Saved Searches and a widget box will appear.

  1. In order to have this widget, you must already have saved searches. Begin typing the title of a saved search and select the one you want.

  1. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page. As widgets, Browse Categories and Saved Searches appear the same.

A Page widget looks like a Browse Category or a Saved Search widget in that it is the thumbnail of that page. The widget will look like the image below, while clicking on it will take the user to that page.

  1. Click Pages and a widget box will appear. You must already have pages in your exhibit to use this widget.

  1. Begin typing the title of a page and you will be given a list to select from.

  1. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page.
  2. If you have not set a thumbnail for the page you are linking, it will appear as a gray box.

The Item Row widget displays items in a horizontal row with optional heading and text attached.  The end result of a single image is below.

  1. Click Item Row and a widget box will appear.

  1. Begin entering a title of an image you’d like to add. Click on an image title to add it to the row.

  1. On the right you have the option to add a primary and secondary caption. Check the box next to the caption(s) you’d like to have and using the dropdown menu, select the metadata field you would like as the caption.
  2. Add a heading and text.
  3. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page.

Item Carousel is a running slideshow of images you select that change at a selected interval.  The end product will look like this:

  1. Click Item Carousel and a widget box will appear. Type in your text.

  1. Begin entering a title of an image you’d like to add. Click on an image title to add it to the row.

  1. On the right you have the option to add a primary and secondary caption. Check the box next to the caption(s) you’d like to have and using the dropdown menu, select the metadata field you would like as the caption for each.
  2. Use the dropdown menu to set how frequently you want the images to cycle.
  3. Set carousel height.
  4. Click Save changes.

The Item Embed widget embeds an item on the page with option heading and text. With this widget, the user is about to make the image full screen and zoom in and out.  It will look like this:

  1. Click Item Embed and a widget box will appear.

  1. Begin entering a title of an image you’d like to add. Click on an image title to add it to the row.

  1. You may add a heading and some text to describe the image.
  2. Click Save changes.
  3. Using the directional buttons at the top, the user can zoom in, zoom out, set to original size, or enter full screen.

The Item Slideshow widget is a user-guided slideshow with images to the left and titles and optional descriptions on the right:

  1. Click Item Slideshow and a widget box will appear.

  1. On the right you have the option to add a primary and secondary caption. Check the box next to the caption(s) you’d like to have and using the dropdown menu, select the metadata field you would like as the caption for each.
  2. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page.

The Item grid widget allows the curator to select images to be shown in a grid (pre-determined by the software, depending on the number of images). It will look like this:

  1. Click Item Grid and a widget box will appear.

  1. Begin entering a title of an image you’d like to add. Click on an image title to add it to the row.

  1. The images will be automatically cropped to fit the predetermined grid.
  2. Click the three horizontal lines in the gray bar to the left of the image to reorder the images.

  1. Click Save changes to see how it will appear on your page.

The search results widget pulls the results of a saved search directly onto your page without a thumbnail link. Curators can decide how they are laid out.

  1. Click Search Results and a widget box will appear.

  1. Type the name of a previously saved search and select the search you want to display.
  2. On the right, check a box to indicate how you want the results to be displayed.
