A UO Libraries self-guided tutorial on integrity in library research and using sources ethically

16 - Citation Management

Citation management tools

Why might you choose to use citation management software?

  • Keeps track of all of your potential information sources
  • Makes it easier to find your sources again
  • Ensures that you have all of the necessary citation information for each type of source
  • Allows you to build and maintain your bibliography throughout the research process
  • Automatically formats your citations and bibliographies in various citation styles
  • Organizes your sources for multiple projects or papers
  • Allows you to highlight, tag, and annotate sources

UO Libraries supports the following citation management tools: Zotero, EndNote, and Mendeley.

Beware! Citation management tools (or citations from Google Scholar or a library database) are computer generated and are NOT ALWAYS 100% accurate. So, use the tools to get you started formatting your bibliography or works cited list, but ALWAYS double-check the citation formats in a style guide or through an authoritative web resource, such as the Purdue OWL or an official style manual from UO Libraries.
