Install Night: Workshop Description

Software: Open source software, or any proprietary software available to you through the UOregon Software Center. Open source software could include Zotero, R, RStudio, Python, Anaconda, git, or qGIS.
Duration: 60 min

Room description:

Varies. Often held in Knight Library 267b or the Knight Library DREAM Lab workshop space

Who should take this workshop:

Install night is for anyone who wants help installing a software program on their personal laptop.
Prerequisites:
  • Bring the laptop you'd like to install software on
  • Make sure you have administrative privileges on the laptop 
Skills Taught / Learning Outcomes:
    • How to install software
    • How to use Google searches to troubleshoot installation challenges
Class Materials:

Installation guides for some software is at the bottom of this page. In general, remember that no matter what software problems you encounter, chances are it's happened to someone else. So there's a good chance you can find help on the Internet:

  • Search for answers: In your search engine query, include the software program name and version, the problem you encountered, and the circumstances under which the problem occurred. If you received a specific error message, enter the exact error message text, along with the name of the application.
  • Check the vendor's website: Most software vendors provide some form of product help, such as answers to frequently asked questions, product documentation, or user discussion forums.
