Intro to Digital Publishing: Open Textbooks on Pressbooks

Software: A free account on the Pressbooks platform.
Duration: 90 minutes

Room description:

Varies. Often held in the Knight Library DREAM Lab workshop space.

Prerequisites: No prerequisites required, but it helps to have attended the Open Educational Resources (OER) workshop for basic familiarity with OER and the motivations for using/creating OER. Faculty who are interested in adapting or authoring open textbooks for use in this workshop are encouraged to attend.
Skills Taught / Learning Outcomes:
  • Identify the steps of the textbook publishing process, including common roles and responsibilities in preproduction and production.
  • Experiment with the Pressbooks platform, and begin to layout an open textbook.
  • Select a creative commons open license, and add license to sample Pressbook.
