Ensure you get credit for your work whether you go by initials, a name different from earlier in your career, or have a similar name to another scholar
Your unique, persistent identifier will ensure consistent, reliable attribution for your work
Identify trusted platforms and institutions and give them permission to sync to your profile
All of your data has fine-grained access controls for viewing and editing to make your work as discoverable as possible
Many publishers and funders use or require ORCID, reducing the need to manage logins for different platforms and supporting the auto-population of common forms
Even if you leave the University of Oregon, your grant expires, or you decide not to use a certain platform any longer, you can continue to use, update, and manage your ORCID
This graphic represents the virtuous cycle of interoperability facilitated by open, persistent digital identifiers such as ORCID, but also digital object identifiers (DOIs), which are widely used in publishing and data. Researchers, publishers, employers, and funders are able to engage with each other through established channels of connection and collection where authorship, affiliation, and awards can be asserted in both directions, if the researcher chooses to add a publisher, employer, or funder as a trusted organization. Once this connection is established, ORCID data can be used to complete a variety of forms, logins, and disclosures with a single click.
