The news sites/portals linked on this page are arranged alphabetically by country/region. Within each box is the country/region's BBC Media Guide which gives a brief overview of the state of media and media independence, and then an incomplete list of major news sources local to that country/region.

The sources linked here are largely English-language, but the BBC Media Guide has links to major sources in local languages (such as Arabic, French, Persian, etc.). 

News sites/sources listed on this page are not meant as endorsements of political/ideological leanings or, in the case of many local news sources, state-owned censorship/opposition erasure. I have tried to collect as wide of a range of resources as possible to reflect a wide range of opinions/styles/perspectives, and it is important to thoroughly research the source(s) of news articles/stories when citing them.
