LibGuides Instructions and Guidelines

An internal guide for users of LibGuides within the UO library

Friendly URLs

Each LibGuide and subpage should have a human readable URL. Set the URL for the whole guide in the URL field at the top. For each subpage, set the URL with a descriptive URL:

Use - https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/art/articles
Avoid - https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/c.php?g=329801&p=2214419

Use lower case, numbers and hyphens only.
Avoid underscores and other special characters.

Subjects + Tags

Subjects: Subjects are mandatory for all Published guides. Assign 1-3 relevant subjects for your Guide based on its topic. If none of the Subjects seem appropriate, pick Academic/Interdisciplinary

Subjects are created by system administrators and usually map to UO majors or disciplines. If you would like to propose a new Subject for the list, please contact the LibGuides editors.

Tags: Tags are optional and shouldn't duplicate words used elsewhere in the Guide (title, subject, description, etc.).
Use no more than 4 tags per Guide. Tags are simple keywords that describe guide content for search indexing.

Navigation

When setting up Guide Layout (upper right-hand corner near the Publication Status button), in the the Guide Navigation sub-menu, turn on both:

  1. Show all subpages in side navigation
  2. Show box-level navigation for selected page
