Source Pulling for Law Journals

Overview

Articles tend to be the most common type of source cited, specifically, law journal articles. However, sometimes you might need to find articles from other academic journals, newspapers or magazines.

For law review articles, you want to find the most authoritative version of the article, which generally means downloading the pdf of the article from HeinOnline instead of the html version on Westlaw and Lexis. If the article is not on HeinOnline, search for the journal in LibrarySearch or try going to the journal's website.

Search for the Citation on HeinOnline

PDF versions of law journal articles can be found in HeinOnline's Law Journal Library. If you have a citation, you can either cut and paste it into the search box or use the citation tool below.

Go to the journal's website. Sometimes, you can download the pdf of an article directly from the website of the law review.

Try searching another legal database for the article.  The Law Library's Law Databases page provides access to a number of databases that can be helpful for source pulling.
