In response to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, access to the UO Libraries and many services have changed. Summit borrowing is suspended until further notice. For the latest updates on UO Libraries' COVID-19 response, please see https:/library.uoregon.edu/coronavirus.
Use LibrarySearch to locate print and e-books held in the UO Libraries. Remember you can use keyword, title, author or subject to locate items.
To look for print or ebooks available in the UO Libraries change the drop down menu to 'UO Libraries' (see below). This will limit your search to books, ebooks, and similar items, and will remove articles from the results. After you've done the search, limit to just print books or ebooks by going to "Refine My Results > Resource Type" on the left and select these options (see below).
You can request a UO Libraries' book held at any of our locations to be sent to the Knight Pickup Window, to the Law Library for curbside pickup, to the Portland Library & Learning Commons for curbside pickup, or to to your home address. To do this click on the book's title and then scroll down to "Request Options," select the "Request UO Item" link, and select your preferred delivery option. If the book is currently checked out this option also serves as a way to recall the book, although returns have currently been suspended. You must be logged in to your Library Account to see the request options.
If you only need a chapter from a print book the UO Libraries provides a service called Document Delivery where you can place a request to have a copy of the item made for your use (subject to copyright restrictions). To request a print chapter in LibrarySearch, click on the title then scroll down to "Request Options: Document Delivery." Complete the form with information about the chapter--including page numbers--to complete the request. You must be signed in to your Library Account to see the request options.
If you need an item that is not available through the UO Libraries, you can request it through our interlibrary loan service (ILL).
We are only able to borrow through ILL for current UO faculty, students, and staff at this time to support remote teaching and learning. Please note: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many libraries around the country and world are closed to employees and not fulfilling ILL requests. Obtaining material from other libraries is taking much longer than usual and borrowed items will be quarantined for three days upon arrival. Please use ILL judiciously.
You can search hundreds of libraries from around the world using WorldCat. It is linked directly from the UO Libraries homepage (see below).
If you find an item you want in WorldCat, look for the green button that says "Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan (about 10 days) (see below).
On the next screen, you will log in to the interlibrary loan request system, or ILLiad. If you have never used ILLiad, you will be prompted to set up an account the first time you log in. If you need help logging in or resetting your ILLiad password, contact the ILL staff at 541-346-3055 or email@example.com.
After you log in to ILLiad, the request form may automatically fill in with the item's citation information. If not, fill out the form with as much information as you have about the item, e.g., author, title, publisher, date. When you are done, click "submit."
You will get an email when your item has arrived and is ready for pickup. To check the status of your request, log in to your ILLiad account.
