Libraries' Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence

Welcome!

The Libraries' Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence (LAURE) review process is open for the 2023 - 2024 school year.  This includes projects created during the summer and fall 2023 terms and the winter and spring 2024 terms.

The Libraries' Award for Undergraduate Research Excellence (LAURE) recognizes students who demonstrate high-quality academic work and excellent library research skills.

Congratulations on your research project!
Now you have a chance to explain and win an award
based on your research experience with the
Research Process & Scholarly Growth Essay (750-2000 words).

LAURE winners will receive a monetary award of $1,500. Project submissions can include:

  • Single term papers and projects from a 200 level or above course
  • Theses or multi-term papers and projects
  • Group paper or project

Note: Group project submissions will need to identify one corresponding author to submit the application and receive monetary award, if selected. 

  • Applications are reviewed once a year by the Awards Committee composed of UO librarians and faculty. Currently enrolled students receive awards as scholarships; recent graduates receive a cash award.
  • For consideration for this award cycle, all entries must be submitted prior to your graduation date and by June 15, 2024.
  • Submitted works must be completed during Summer term 2023 through Spring term 2024.
  • Students can submit one individual and one group submission per year.

Criteria

  • Must be a currently enrolled University of Oregon undergraduate at the time of application submission.
  • Single-term projects must be completed for a 200 level or above UO credit course.
  • Theses and multi-term projects must be completed prior to submission and be connected to the UO curriculum.
  • Work must have been completed in the academic year prior to June 15, 2024 (including Summer 2023).
  • Include a written recommendation from the course instructor, project or thesis advisor.
  • Include a 100-150 word abstract.
  • Group papers or projects are limited to one submission by a point person for the group.
  • Student work only; no co-authored works with faculty.

Upload each of the following required documents with your award application. Accepted file formats include PDF and DOCX.

  • Research Process & Scholarly Growth Essay (750-2000 words) 
    • Include Bibliography or References appended to the essay (Note: The Bibliography and required abstract do not count towards the 2000 word count).
  • Instructor/Advisor Recommendation 
  • Final research paper or project (reviewed but not scored)
