What is SSRN?

The Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is an online repository for abstracts, drafts and final versions of academic papers.  Since its start in 1994, SSRN has become a leading source for open access to legal scholarship.

Managing your author profile and submitting your papers to SSRN makes your work easy to find in Google and other common search engines.  Researchers who access your work in SSRN can simply click on your name to conveniently corral your other work.  Additionally, your work gets indexed in the permanent SSRN database, making it especially easy for other legal scholars to find.

Using SSRN to promote your work requires that you have an SSRN User HQ account.

Creating an SSRN account

To sign in or to create a SSRN User HQ account, go to http://hq.ssrn.com. Once signed in you can change your User ID and Password, if you choose.

Manage your contact information and institutional affiliation

After signing into SSRN you can use the My Library tab to manage your contact information.  Useful edits include:

  • Indicating how you wish your name to be publicly displayed
  • Adding your institutional affiliation, including a URL to your faculty webpage if desired
  • Adding a photo  (Available for authors with at least one accepted paper in SSRN)
  • Connecting with your ORCID record

Submitting a paper on SSRN

After signing into SSRN you can use the Submit a Paper tab to start the process.  Detailed steps are provided by SSRN.

View SSRN rankings

SSRN tracks the number of times a paper has been downloaded and cited.  This information is available on individual author pages and is also incorporated into download rankings for both authors and institutions.

Full rankings can be viewed by signing into SSRN and using the Rankings tab.
