SBUS 453: Law & Sports Business

This guide is designed to help researchers outside the UO School of Law carry out basic basic legal research on sports business topics.

Using BNA's Specialized Law Reports

NOTE: you must use VPN to access this resource remotely.

From within Bloomberg Law, click Browse and select "All Legal Content Search."  Then click the arrow to open "U.S. Secondary Sources." Try checking the box next to "Law Reports," as well as the boxes for Bloomberg Law Analysis, Bloomberg Law News, and Bloomberg Law Notes.  Then scroll to the top of your opened screen and enter your search.  Make sure to use the "Edit Search" link to modify any searches.

Although you can enter simple searches with all terms separated by a space, you can often improve your searches by specifying that terms all be found in the same sentence or paragraph, and by covering for varying forms of a term.  Click on the information icon next to the search box for more options.

e.g. Search for sport* s/ scholarship*

e.g. Search for athlete* p/ likeness

e.g. Search for student* s/ athlete*

e.g. Search for student* s/ athlete* p/ employ!

Note use of s/ (specifying that terms be in same sentence); p/ (specifying that terms be in same paragraph);  ! (root expander to cover for various forms of your typed term); and * (single character wildcard).  Click on the information icon next to the search box for other search features.
