MLA Handbook, 9th edition, book cover

This tutorial is intended as an introduction to MLA style only. MLA style is more fully explained in the MLA Handbook, which you can find in the Knight Library Reference Collection on Level 1 of the library.

After going through this tutorial, you should be able to:

  • Distinguish between attribution and citation
  • Give reasons why we as scholars and students cite the works of others
  • Recognize the core elements of an MLA 9th edition citation style for journal articles, books, and book chapters

During the Tutorial

You will receive feedback on the interactive questions as you go through the tutorial. We hope this tutorial helps you become more familiar with these topics!
