ORIL: Research Skills

The purpose of this guide is to help editors of the Oregon Review of International Law (ORIL).  It introduces students to international, foreign and comparative resources available at UO Libraries.

To select a paper topic, look at international organization websites (focus on sections covering news and reports).  Another good source are the table of contents for various international law journals. 

To refine your topic consider:

1. Region/country
2. Time period
3. Group of interest

All of the above will influence where you search and the terms you use.

It is particularly important to begin with secondary sources in international legal research.  A good secondary source will lead researchers to everything else.
