A few book searching tips

Use more general terms for books than the more specific terms needed for searching for articles.

LibrarySearch finds articles and many other formats besides books.

  • To limit to books, click on 'e-books' and/or 'print books' under 'Resource Type' on the left side. NOTE:
    • You may have to click on "Show more" to see books.
    • Click your selections, then click the green "Apply filters" button.

You may get more or better results if you do a Subject Heading search for a broad term. To do a search by Subject

  • Go to Advanced Search and select Subject from the left-side pull-down menu. Only Library of Congress subject terms will be searched.
  • click on the subject heading links under 'Details' for a book that you like, to get more like it.
  • Here is a small selection of potentially useful subject headings:
    • Civil Rights
    • Constitution (name of country or US state)
    • Constitutional amendments
    • Constitutional courts
    • Constitutional history - [name of country or state]
    • Constitutional law - [name of country], e.g.: Constitutional law - United States
    • United States Constitution. 1st - 10th Amendments (for Bill of Rights)
    • United States Supreme Court
