This guide is to help you locate information related to the fields of public and nonprofit administration.

Finding Articles Using LibrarySearch

LibrarySearch is the the search tool that appears on the Library's home page.  It's default setting searches a broad universe of print and electronic resources (books, academic and popular journal articles, audio, video, maps, etc.) available through the UO Libraries and partner academic libraries. You can refine and limit your search in various ways, such as limiting just to articles. There are also ways to limit your search to scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles.  For more information on detailed searching, go to the LibrarySearch Help Guide.

LibrarySearch can be used to look for scholarly articles across all disciplines. It is a good starting place if you aren't sure which subject specific database is appropriate for your topic or your topic is cross-disciplinary.  If you are performing an exhaustive literature search on a topic, you may want to get your start in LibrarySearch and then move on to a subject specific article database.

To begin your search for scholarly articles, use the drop down menu to limit the search scope to "Articles."  This limits your search to articles, book chapters, and journal content indexed in many of the databases and journals the UO Libraries subscribes to.

Once your search results appear, you can use the limits in the left side bar to show only the results from peer-reviewed journals.

The limit is not perfect and may exclude some scholarly articles. However, it is a handy short-cut if you are looking for some scholarly articles at the beginning of your research.  As always, use your own judgement to evaluate whether the information resources you have identified are credible and appropriate for your assignment.

Using a Relevant Article to Find Others on the Topic

If you've already found one great article on your topic, you can use it to find others.

To find newer articles, find the articles that cite your article, using either Web of Science (not just for science) or Google Scholar.

Web of Science

Search for your article by title:

Title Search in Web of Science

After you click Search, find the article in the results list if there's more than one result and look to the right for the Times cited indicator:

Times Cited

Click on the number to get a list of the articles that cite this one.

Google Scholar

Search for your article by title:

google scholar title search

Once you found your article, look below for Cited by and click on that to see the newer article that cite this one:
