Sustainable City Year Program: Troutdale

Troutdale is a city located in Multnomah County, Oregon. Troutdale is located on the edge of the Portland metropolitan area. Bounded by the Sandy and Columbia rivers, this "gateway to the gorge, was incorporated in 1907. 

According to the United States Census, the city is approximately 5.9 square miles and has 16,559 residents. Of that, about 74.7% of that population are aged 18-64. Between 1910 and 1940, the city experienced population growth challenges and experienced negative population gain twice. However, starting with the 1950 census, Troutdale has experienced continued, if not necessarily consistent, population growth. The city is not demographically diverse. For example, 80.7% of the population is white alone,5.9% Asian alone,5.1 some other race alone, 4.9% two or more races,1.9% Black or African American alone, and 1.5%American Indian and Alaska Native alone.

Economically, Troutdale is on par with the State of Oregon. The Census reports that the median household income for the State of Oregon is $59,393, while Troutdale exceeds that with a household income of $72,188. The poverty rate for Troutdale is reported at 11.8%, while it's 11.4% for Oregon.
