Install Zotero

Go to www.zotero.org, click on "Log in," and register for a free account. 

Go to www.zotero.org/download to download the Zotero desktop application and browser extension (Zotero Connector) for your Internet browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).

Tools to organize your readings

There are many other options for bibliographic or reference management software. Use what your lab is using, just use one of them.

Citation Style Guides

Use whatever citation style works for your lab and discipline. If you use zotero, mendeley or one of the other tools, you'll be able to change the formatting with the click of a few buttons.

If you are looking for a super short style to use in a document with strict page limits (like a grant proposal), here is one that should work:
