SCUA Policies and Procedures during COVID-19

Special Collections and University Archives

Per campus and statewide policy, on-site appointments are limited to UO faculty, staff, and students. Appointments must be made at least 1 week in advance using this request form. Appointment slots are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am-12pm, or 1pm-3pm. Appointment requests are pending until approved by our department. Appointments accommodate 1 researcher at a time. We cannot provide space for partners or groups.

Once we receive your appointment request, we will contact you to assess your research needs. In addition to our holdings, we will explore digital options as well as items available via Summit and/or Interlibrary Loan.

If your appointment request is approved, we will provide instructions on how to request materials via the UO Libraries catalog.

Materials requested without an approved appointment are not available.

Appointment Protocols

  1. Wash hands.
  2. Place all personal belongings in assigned locker:
    • Permitted items in reading room:
      • paper (loose leaf or notebook)
      • pencil
      • cell phone
      • laptop and charger (no case)
      • digital camera and charger (no case)
    • All permitted items brought into the reading room will be visually inspected by the staff member at the end of your appointment.
  3. All requested materials will be delivered to you in the reading room on a cart, however, you are only permitted to look at one book, or one box at a time. Please inform the staff member if you are finished with the materials, or would like to keep them on hold for a future appointment.
  4. Sanitize your work space and locker. Wipes are provided in the reading room and in the hallway.

On-Site Access

Entry into Knight Library is only permitted through the NE entrance (nearest the art museum), and you must swipe your UO ID card. Face coverings are mandatory, and must be worn throughout the library.

Proceed across the corridor towards the NW entrance (past the circulation desk), and take the west stairwell to the 2nd floor. A member of our staff will confirm your appointment, and permit entry into the department.
